From 2002 auto show introduction to the program early in order to sell 1,000 cars in 41 minutes, the Pontiac Solstice has always invoked passionate responses from customers. Now, Pontiac is taking the combination vehicle sensuous styling and driving exhilaration to a new level with the announcement of the turbocharged Solstice GXP 2007.
Base Solstice offers all the qualities expected of a classic roadster -. Style, crisp handling and spirited performance Solstice GXP takes that pure roadster DNA and pushed to a new level, with a 47 percent increase horsepower and other enhancements for a more thrilling driving experience.
Introduced for model year 2006, Solstice is all-new Pontiac roadster that has a starting price of under $ 20,000. For the year 2007 using 18 psi boost from dual-scroll turbo, intercooler an air-to-air, beefed-up crankshaft and connecting rods, and new pistons with cast-in oil lines to keep them cool. Adding a Solstice GXP features a 2.0-liter Ecotec Turbo Direct Injection with Variable Valve Timing DOHC 4-cylinder aluminum engine that produces 260 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. so that the highest specific output engine GM ever, at 2.1 horsepower per cubic inch displacement (130 hp / 97 kw per liter), and the most powerful production engine in the Ecotec family. A dual-scroll turbocharger with a lightweight turbine provides nearly instant power, and cooling systems between air-to-air turbo improve performance by reducing inlet temperatures. Dual cam phasing complements turbocharging system by optimizing valve timing at lower rpm for best turbo response and quick access to engine torque.
Direct injection technology helps Ecotec engine produce more power while maintaining the lower fuel consumption than engines of small displacement port-injected.
With direct injection, fuel is delivered directly into the combustion chamber to create a more complete burn of the mixture of air / fuel. Less fuel is needed to produce the equivalent horsepower, especially at normal cruising speeds, the system of conventional port injection combustion.
GXP high-performance Ecotec turbo engine is connected with five-speed manual gearbox is standard, or optional five-speed transmission automobile. The transmission can propel the car from zero to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds below.
Riding on 4-wheel independent suspension sport-tuned and 18-inch performance tires, GXP is styled with front and rear fascia extensions of high-polished stainless steel dual exhaust outlets on the outside with a chair GXP embroidery and an increase in system StabiliTrak vehicle. A two-way power driver’s seat height adjuster is standard and a latte-colored cloth convertible top is available. The selected package replaces the Power Package, and includes power windows, power door locks, remote keyless entry and power body-color outside mirrors. New options include a rear spoiler, sport metallic pedals and “Mean” (yellow) as the exterior color.
Even optioned with leather seats and chrome wheels, the price of the Solstice GXP is not possible to solve the $ 20,000 barrier. At least, that is, until Pontiac dealers tack on their cut for selling one.
